In this period of national uprising he came in contact with Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh(RSS) through his classmate and a close friend Ram Sihasan Yadav alias Bhola Shankar Bandhu who now is a school teacher and devoted RSS functionary in Bihar. Impressed with its nationalistic approach, he joined RSS and worked as a 'Mukhya Shikshak' of his village 'shakha' from 1962 to 1966 till he left to Patna for higher education.

In Patna he lost contact with RSS for a couple of years. The contact was again revived via the same old friend Bhola Shankar Bhandhu who briefed Govindacharya Ji about him when he came to Bihar as RSS Pracharak at Bhagalpur. He started working with Akhil Bhartiya Vidyarthi Parishad(ABVP) and was nominated in-charge of science college unit of the ABVP. He participated in the student movement launched by ABVP in 1969 for reform in education system. On march 18, 1974 Bihar police opened fire on agitating student mob in front of Bihar Legislative Assembly who had encircled Bihar Assembly protesting against growing corruption, spiraling price rise, unemployment and demanding change in education system. He spent more than a week time in Patna Medical College Hospital to take care of the Treatment, Nursing and Food for large number of students and citizens having severe bullet injuries and Lathi blows.

Activities during Emergency

Just a couple of days after the Sangha Shiksha Varg concluded the infamous emergency was imposed in the night of June 25, 1976 in the country. All democratic rights were snatched, censorship was imposed, newspapers were gagged and important Leaders like J.P, Atal Bihari Vajpayee, L. K. Advani, Chandrashekhar etc. were put behind bars. On June 28, 1975 RSS too was banned. He was asked to work for underground movement against Emergency and was assigned the task to look after underground publications and Public Relation Campaign of the movement. He was assigned the responsibility to make Hindi translation of the Booklets and Pamphlets in English sent from Jails and other places across the country and abroad. Later on he was entrusted to edit an underground magazine titled 'The Lokvani'. His responsibility was to arrange the materials as well as edit and circulate the magazine while Ashok Kumar Singh and others were assigned to look after the printing and managerial aspects of the magazine. A Pamphlet wrote by Shri L. K. Advani in Bangalore Jail titled 'A Time comes when disobedience to law becomes duty' and a news item of Dr. Subramanian Swamy's miraculous escape from parliament are worth remembering among the publicity materials he translated.

Suddenly sometimes in August 1975, a call of interview for the post of auditor came from Department of Audits and Accounts (P&T). He was selected for the post but due to engagement in ongoing Jail Bharo RSS Satyagrah against emergency he was asked to postpone the joining till January 26, 1976, the date on which the Satyagrah was to be concluded. After that he joined the job. The atmosphere in the office was very supportive of the movement against emergency and after a gap of few days the office became the most suitable place to edit "the Lokvani", making translations and conduct underground anti emergency activities. Later on he resigned the job.

As almost all the senior leaders of the then Jan Sangh in Bihar were either arrested or were underground in the emergency, he was assigned to make coordination with the state leaders of other pro JP movement political parties and trade unions and solicit their opinion on a draft constitution for a new political party supposed to be formed by amalgamation of the then Jan Sangh, Congress(O), Lok dal and socialist party. The draft proposal was prepared by a group of senior leaders under guidance of the eminent Trade Union leader shri Datto Pant B Thengdi. This was one of the most challenging task during emergency.

After the defeat of Mrs. Indira Gandhi's dictatorial rule in 1977 general elections of Lok Sabha he was asked to work as Baudhik Pramukh (Incharge Intellectual Wing) of RSS at Patna. After a few months he was nominated as Organising Secretary of the Janata Yuva Morcha (Youth wing of Janata Party owning allegiance to erstwhile Jan Sangh faction.) He worked in this capacity till 1979. Due to differences with senior leaders in the then Janata Party government in Bihar he was asked to shed the responsibilities of the State Organising Secretary of the Janata Yuva Morhca in early 1980 and was given responsibility to work for the 'Committee against Russian Invasion on Afganistan.' Dr. Subramanian Swami was its National Convenor. He was nominated the Convenor of its Bihar State Committee. The committee was represented by all political and social organisations except the Pro-Russia Communist Party of India (CPI).
